Program Note

The clarinet quintet is dedicated to my teacher in Israel, Andre Hajdu, and includes a paraphrase from his song “Nitai Ha-Arbeli.” While the work is based on a strict seria of pitches, a sense of tonality is present throughout the piece. The two poles, tonal and serial, coincide with each other, however, the tonality prevails – at a certain point, the music reaches almost a “Klezmer” sound, paraphrasing Hajdu’s tune.
