A 3d animation film with live orchestral soundtrack. Recorded June 2006 in the Israel Festival.
Director/animation: Liron Damir. Music composed by Matti Kovler.

Program Note

The Revolution Orchestra began as a unique student run orchestra founded in 2005 by conductor Roy Oppenheim and composer Zohar Sharon, with the declared aim to support the creation of new Israeli music, bringing it to wider audiences. One of the first pilot projects of the orchestra was the “Animation Concert” – a project, pairing animation students from the Bezalel School for Visual Art in Jerusalem and composers from the Jerusalem Music Academy.
UMB is the result of such collaboration. I based the music to Liron Damir’s 3d animation on the melody of “The Soul Descends” – a Hassidic chant, which symbolizes the descent of the soul, prior to birth. I used renditions of this melody in two other works, including Cokboy and The Soul Descends composed especially for Shosh Lagil and the Sirenot Ensemble in Israel.

“The most impressive work on the program was UMB, an animation film with music by Matti Kovler… It was worth coming to this concert, if only for the sake of hearing Matti Kovler’s UMB and Gilad Cohen’s “Al Mishkavi BaLeylot”
